got a jar labelled rhododendron honey off a stall on a trip, seller was lovely, whole story about mountain flowers and his grandfather. had some and it was just.. nice honey. bit bitter at the end, nothing else. did i get done or is rhododendron honey not automatically the mad kind
not automatically, no. rhododendron is a huge genus, hundreds of species, and only some put grayanotoxin into the nectar at any level worth mentioning. bees dont work one flower exclusively either so most jars are a blend even when the label picks one name
The label is a floral source claim, not a chemistry claim. It tells you roughly what the bees were near. What actually ended up in the jar is a separate matter, and the two get collapsed constantly — one of them sells better.
Only a result on that specific batch closes that gap, with a batch id you can match to the jar in front of you. Otherwise you're inferring a compound from a flower name, which is a longer leap than it looks.
