Getting ready for my first time and everyone says "set and setting" but no one spells out what they mean. Not asking how much of anything — just the around-it stuff. What does a sensible setup actually look like? Trying to do this properly rather than wing it on a random Tuesday.

good instinct asking this part first ngl. quick version of what id want sorted: somewhere familiar (your own place > a mates you barely know), a sober person you trust around, a day with nothing after it, and water + a bit of food already out so youre not getting up for it later. nothing dramatic, just removes the stuff that turns a calm hour into a stressful one

the familiar place thing is so underrated. somewhere you already feel safe means if it gets a bit much you just sit on your own sofa and ride it out. no new sounds, no working out where the bathroom is

honestly the sober trusted person bit calmed me down the most. just knowing someone in the room isnt also off somewhere and can hand me water. did mine with my sister sat there reading and it made the whole thing way less scary

big one people skip is the clear day after. dont line this up the night before work or anything you have to be sharp for. give it a proper empty window so theres no clock watching
