Why does the same dose feel different each time?

I've been using the same jar for a few weeks and the same amount doesn't produce the same effect each time. Sometimes very mild, once was stronger than I expected. Same spoon, same time of day, same food beforehand. What's causing the variation?

Several factors affect this even with the same batch and dose:

1. Stomach contents: Fat and protein slow gastric emptying, which slows absorption. High-carb or empty stomach = faster, stronger onset.
2. Hydration: Affects blood volume and therefore how concentrated the compound becomes in circulation. Mildly dehydrated = stronger apparent effect.
3. Sleep debt: Changes autonomic baseline, which can amplify the parasympathetic effects.
4. Recent physical activity: Affects absorption rate and cardiovascular baseline.
5. Hormonal variation: Relevant particularly for menstrual cycle-related changes in cardiovascular sensitivity.
6. Honey settling in the jar: Active compounds can concentrate at different layers. If you don't stir before each use, you're getting inconsistent concentration per spoon.

The stirring point is real and underrated. I've had the last quarter of a jar feel noticeably stronger than the first half. If the honey has been sitting undisturbed, whatever is denser may have settled. Always mix before use — this alone probably accounts for a lot of the variation people report. And recalibrate with every new jar even from the same seller.
