honest question, not trying to start anything. half the CoAs people post here mention HPLC or LC-MS like its the gold standard, and ive seen folks dismiss anything without it. for a normal buyer does the method actually matter or is it people flexing lab words? what am i meant to do with "LC-MS" as someone who isnt a chemist
not snobbery but not magic either. the method is just how they separated and measured the thing. decent method + a clear value + an LOD is what you want. the acronym alone isnt the point
ok this is the part that always loses me, i just see capital letters and assume good
the reason people care about the more specific methods is roughly identification vs guess. a vaguer method can tell you something is present in a family of compounds, the more targeted ones are better at saying which one and how much. im not the person to go deeper than that and id push any actual interpretation to a real analyst, but thats the gist for why it gets mentioned.
the snobbery version is real though. some people wave LC-MS around like it certifies the whole jar when the CoA is still missing a batch id and an LOD. fancy method, useless paper
