Curious how much of the actual harvesting technique and knowledge exists in any written form versus being purely oral tradition passed hands-on between generations..

Mostly passed hands-on still, from father to son typically, watching and doing rather than reading. some of it has started getting documented more recently through outside interest and some cooperative record-keeping, but that's a fairly new layer on top of a much older oral practice.

This is acutally relevant to the fair pay conversation too, knowledge that isnt written down anywhere is also harder to formally value or negotiate around, worth thinking about.

interesting point, informal knowledge transfer and formal documentation probably need to coexist rather than one replacing the other.

agree, writing it down doesn't replace actually learning the cliff by climbing it, but it does help with things like the CoA and traceability side that outside buyers care about.
