Probably a naive question but does any of it stay in the village. like do people there eat it themselves, or is it made to be sent out and that's basically it now
i just just assumed export, thats it. never occured to me people have it at home.
Both, and the order matters. The local relationship with it came first and it's still there. The export market is the newer thing sitting on top of that, it's not the reason the thing exists.
@Jake where it comes from, it isnt exotic. Its just something a family has. Outside demand grew, the tradition didn't step aside to make room for it.
There's a version of this online where it all gets treated as invented for exporters, and that cant hold if the market turned up afterwards. no idea how the money side of it actually works though, has anyone got a source on that
the not exotic bit is the part i didnt expect at all. what i can't tell is whether its an everyday thing in a house or more for particular occasions. never thought to ask when i was there lol..
